DESCRIPTION
The Castle (castieddhru in local dialect) is located in the heart of Salento - in the South of Italy - and it is one of the most interesting local aristocratic residences and one of the most impressive expression of civil architecture of the seventeenth century (there is also a little Chapel which dates back to mid-1600’s).
The fortified villa was the residence of the Counts and Barons of some of the most important aristocratic dynasties of the South of Italy, as well as having been the economic heart of local agricultural production for over two centuries.
Behind the building there is a wide park (2 hectare), planted with citrus trees and accessed by an elegant portico (you can walk through the park on a wonderful colonnaded path). In the park you can find old attestation of the antiquity of the castle: there is an old stone table with chairs which were built using and cutting old columns, an old stone fountain and 6/7 old stone wells.
More than 15 generous rooms and over 700 square meters can host every kind of film production.
The rooms are not furnished and they can be easily customised and adapted to all needs. The staff will be free to create every kind of set.
The rooms are very large (the main salon is about 100 sqm but also the other rooms are very roomy) and they can easily host, in addition to the sets, also the staff's offices, dressing rooms, stock rooms for the instruments, cameras, etc.).
All the rooms have the typical vaulted ceiling.
There is also the opportunity to rent 5 extra hectares of land on a small hill covered by typical old olive trees and characteristic stone walls.
AVAILABILITY
The second floor of the Castle is always available (15 large rooms for 700 sqm, 2 balconies, etc.). Also the 2 hectare park is always available to host every kind of production.
The first floor of the property is occupied by the owners (it's not a problem for them hosting production staff on the second floor or in the park - the Castle is large enough for everyone).
TRANSPORT LINKS & ACCOMMODATION
The Castle is located near to the City of Lecce also known as “The Florence of the Southâ€, right in the heart of the South of Italy.
The nearest airport (Brindisi Papola Casale) is only 30km away (30/40 minutes drive). Maybe there are not many direct flies because it is a small airport but I know there are some daily direct flies from London to Brindisi and, in alternative, you can stop over at Milan (in every airport in Milan you can take off for Brindisi).
With a 10 minutes drive you are, also, on some of the beautiful sand beaches of the Adriatic seacoast.
There is bed and breakfast accommodation locally - which would be very happy to host the production staff (they are all near to the Castle - you can reach them by foot), or if the staff prefer a more luxurious accommodation, Lecce offers a lot of wonderful hotels (Lecce is 10 minutes drive from the Castle. There are also some trains that can be used to reach us)
