Our Museum houses one of the world’s largest collections of working Victorian steam driven engines, having first opened in 1838. It is an incredibly special and beautiful building with several dynamic rooms and spaces, as well as our own steam locomotive that runs 400m round the outside of the site. The Museum strives to be a film-friendly environment; whether it is for press or commercial purposes we try to accommodate all reasonable filming requests
The factory-house is a grand mixture of Victorian and Georgian style, with Grade I and Grade II buildings. There are two engine houses and one Boiler house, as well as a magnificent 200ft brick tower of Italianate style.
Due to the engines and machines, the ambience is industrial yet very elegant, It is traditional and spacious, and has been filmed for many period dramas. It is also popular for private events due to its grandeur and the novelty of the having the majestic engines spurred into action.
