Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 Filming Preparation Begins In Atlanta

James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy conquered a difficult task last year, turning a relatively unknown property into a summer blockbuster hit, and a sequel was ordered by Marvel Studios soon after. Writer-director James Gunn will, of course, be returning to helm Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, with much of the main cast returning as well. Like many modern directors, Gunn has been keeping fans up to date on the progress of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 through social media, interviews, and other various mediums. In Gunn’s last update, given via a Twitter Q&A, he once again reiterated that neither Captain Marvel nor The Hulk will be making an appearance in his sequel, and the number of other additional characters will be kept small. While he still has yet to reveal who those new characters will be, Gunn did announce on Facebook that he is heading off to Atlanta to begin pre-production on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. As Gunn indicates, the length of production will be ten months in all, including pre-production and filming. While Gunn and some crew members will be heading to Atlanta to begin production on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, actual filming, as Gunn has revealed previously, will not commence until February. Instead, according to one of Gunn’s comments on the post, he and the crew will spend the next few months building “the giant sets” that will form the backdrop of the Guardians’ next adventure. Atlanta has become the go-to place for shooting Marvel movies lately. Both Ant-Man and Captain America: Civil War previously filmed there, and, as revealed just a few days ago, Thor 3 will be filming there directly after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. With state-of-the-art facilities and loads of space to work with at the new Pinewood Studios Atlanta, it is easy to see why Marvel keeps coming back. With the production start date getting closer and closer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, it’s likely we’ll get some official news on casting for the new characters Gunn previously mentioned. However, Gunn clarified in the comments that either December or January would still be too early to reveal any of the new characters or plot details. It should also be said that the focal point of the film will likely be the same group as last time, as it was truly the eclectic team thrown together that made the original Guardians of the Galaxy so entertaining to begin with. If Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 keeps some of the same elements of the original while expanding with new characters, it may be even more successful than the last.
